OPT Request Form

Optional Practical Training (OPT) Optional Practical Training (OPT) is temporary employment that is directly related to an F-1 student’s major area of study. Eligible students can apply to receive up to 12 months of OPT employment authorization after completing their academic studies (post-completion).

To request OPT, you will need to complete this form. Upon submission, you will receive an OPT Checklist and FAQ sheet that outlines all of the requirements to participate in OPT.

Remember: You can apply for OPT for up to 90 days before your graduation end date. However, your completed OPT application must be received by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) no later than 60 days after you complete your degree requirements (this is not the same day as graduation).
